While I can appreciate certain aspects of the system, the way its presented and how everything magical and wondrous has been codified and made mundane really turned me off to the game. Because of the photographic composition and lack of sketchy motion, action scenes can slow down and make you focus on the "frozen" odd bits. This type of detail crafting, as seen in many of Elmore's paintings, works best on scenic 'scapes and portraits. He does overdo the belts and buckles, but at least that Viking gear, like the seax dagger, is correct. I'm with you on 4E the death of magic and mystery.

I have low expectations for 5E, since it will be much the same gamist crap that sucked all the fantastic out of what is supposed to be a fantasy game.Aaron E. While I actually think those images are pretty good, I do agree with your distaste of 4e artwork. It's been balanced, focus-tested and "tightened" to the point where it's just one big blob of vague same-ness. No mystery, no wonder, no joy. Just an exercise in mathematics and probability.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
